Alison Krauss was born on July 23, 1971 in Decatur Illinois, but was raised in Champagne. She took lessons in classical violin when she was five years old, but she quickly transitioned to bluegrass. She plays the fiddle and is closely identified with bluegrass music, and sometimes polka. Her outstanding reputation as an American bluegrass artist was highlighted when the films she sang for won major awards. Krauss has sung with other musicians and singers and produced the popular “Sweet Music Man” in 2001, a Reba McEntire composition.

Krauss joined Rounder Records when she was 16 and is still with them. Her album “Lonely Runs Both Ways” earned her three Grammys in 2006: best country album, best country instrumental and best country song. She won another Grammy for her duet with James Taylor for the song “How’s The World Treating You”.
